Stasi: Hillary Clinton talks a lot, but says little, in chat with Daily News

NEW YORK DAILY NEWS
Saturday, April 9, 2016, 9:00 PM

She came, she saw, and she tried to conquer.

Hillary, I mean. Us hard-ass Newsers, I mean.

Hillary Clinton, who is the third presidential candidate to face a grilling by the Editorial Board of the Daily News, came for her turn on the hotseat Saturday and overstayed.

Not her welcome, but Clinton didn’t want to leave because she was enjoying herself so she stayed longer than she was supposed to, while still managing to stick to her talking points.

For the most part, the perfectly coiffed and groomed candidate (as opposed to Bernie who has his suits custom-rumpled and hasn’t combed any of his six hairs in 60 years) showed herself to be certainly less forthcoming than the other candidates who’ve dropped by — Bernie and John Kasich — and as totally well informed as you expect her to be.

Did we learn anything we didn’t already know? No. Did we see her in a way we haven’t before? No. Did that matter? Yes. And no.

Hillary told us that she has great faith in the “Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act,” passed in 2010 to help protect us from another Great Recession.

Hillary didn’t mention the 1999 repeal of the Glass-Steagall Act under President Clinton, which had been passed in 1933 to protect us from another Great Depression. Its repeal has often been cited as one of the big reasons for the Big Recession. Oh.

Free College? Yes. And no.

Hillary said that public college tuition should be based on affordability and family income. The feds and hopefully the states would make up the difference in what students can afford with grants — not loans. Students would be required to work ten hours a week at the colleges to “repay” the grants.

That racist “super predators” remark, and the much hated Clinton crime bill? Yes, but not really.

“I used it. Once. And never again,” Hillary told us. She did not forget to mention that people such as the Rev. Al Sharpton stood up for the crime bill and how 30 years before Bill took office there were three police officers for every felony and by the time he got elected it was down to one cop for every three felonies.

Sincerity? Yes. And No. Competentance? Yes.

Did Hillary conquer? Yes. And no. She came, she left, and so did I — headed for the Board of Elections to cast my absentee ballot. Will I vote for Hillary?

I still don’t know. What I do know is that, come November, she might be all that stands between us and all the hate in the world.
