LAURA BUSH SLAMS THE GOP, SAYS SHE’D RATHER VOTE FOR HILLARY THAN A REPUBLICAN

Posted by Patricia Colli on 09 Apr 2016

Former first lady Laura Bush, who has been working for women’s health, rights and education issues even after her time in the White House, has just revealed which presidential candidate she definitely doesn’t want to win the election.

At the annual Women in the World summit held in New York, Bush revealed that she would like the next POTUS to be someone who will work to improve the lives of women in Afghanistan – basically eliminating misogynist Republican frontrunner Donald Trump right off the bat. Speaking to female business leaders and prominent women from all areas of the world, Bush actually hinted that she would rather vote for Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton over Trump, because she knows that he’s not a candidate that has women’s interests at heart.

The summit was three days long, and centered around women’s rights during war. Trump’s anti-woman rhetoric came up several times, receiving criticism for encouraging misogyny and violence toward women in the United States.

Although Bush didn’t flat-out endorse any candidates, she hinted that she was part of an ever-growing group of Republicans who are considering voting for Clinton because they’ll do anything not to vote for Trump. Sitting on stage her daughters Jenna and Barbara, the former first lady said:

I want our next president – whoever he or she might be – to be somebody who is interested in women in Afghanistan and who will continue US policies… that we continue to do what we’re committed to do as a country.

That’s who I want – or the kind of people that will do that and will pay attention to our history, and know what’s what’s happened before and know specifically how we can continue to do the good things that we do around the world.

Those words pretty much eliminated the GOP’s leading candidates. Trump’s foreign policy plans have received criticism for being isolationist, and his rival, Ted Cruz, has also said that the United States shouldn’t be involved in Afghanistan unless there is a link to terrorism.

Clinton, on the other hand, has a history of being concerned for Afghanistan. She made it a point to visit Afghanistan four times during her time as Secretary of State, and even offered an endorsement for Bush’s book about Afghan women. And Bush, who was actually raised a Democrat, knows just as well as Clinton how difficult it can be to progress in a male-dominated world and strongly believes that women’s rights and issues need to be a priority.

After Mrs. Bush spoke, Jenna blasted the GOP candidates even more directly than her mother. Noting that she had a six-month-old baby daughter, she said:

I worry about her future.
