The raw, ugly face of sexism.

The Indian Wells CEO shared his awful thoughts on women’s tennis and quickly apologized

Indian Wells CEO Raymond Moore may not have his title for much longer after making disparaging comments about the WTA during a media session before the BNP Paribas Open finals on Sunday.

Indian Wells CEO Raymond Moore's remarks this morning not likely to delight the WTA, its players, or fans:
12:21 PM - 20 Mar 2016 · Indian Wells, CA, United States

“No, I think the WTA – you know, in my next life when I come back I want to be someone in the WTA, (Laughter because they ride on the coattails of the men. They don’t make any decisions and they are lucky. They are very, very lucky.

“If I was a lady player, I’d go own every night on my knees and thank god that Roger Federer and Rafa Nadal were born, because they have carried this sport. They really have.”

There is so much wrong with these comments. Let’s just forget how incredibly sexist and offensive the remarks are for a second. Moore’s job is to sell his tournaments to television viewers and ticket buyers. Now he’s alienated half of the population and, really, anyone who is turned off by such ridiculously insensitive comments. Does he want people to boycott the Indian Wells? Because that’s how you get people to boycott the Indian Wells.

His comments also belittle the contributions of players like Serena Williams (who was named 2015 Sports Illustrated Sportsperson of the Year, by the way), Caroline Wozniacki and really any women’s tennis player who ever stepped on a court.

Disappointed in #RaymondMoore comments. He is wrong on so many levels. Every player, especially the top players, contribute to our success

And if you thought those initial comments were bad, Moore actually doubled down on the ignorance.

More from Indian Wells CEO Raymond Moore this morning, further down his remarks:

Ugh.

UPDATE: Moore has apologized for making the remarks.

A hasty apology from Raymond Moore, on his "extremely poor taste and erroneous" comments from hours ago.
