I just wish Intel would quit the radio silence...

Radio silence from Intel usually indicates that something has gone wrong. The company is very "proud" and they love to beat their chests publicly if they've got something good on their hands. 22nm FinFET announcement, 3DXPoint, Skylake (they were talking about it all thru Broadwell's life-cycle), etc.

If Intel were sitting on a winner w/ Broxton they would be out touting how many design wins it has and they'd have disclosed specifications on it a while ago, especially with all of the fabless cos touting their own 14/16nm silicon.

The real clue though is that these days, in the rare moments during which Intel execs mention mobile, they talk about discrete modems (where Intel is woefully behind Qualcomm) and SoFIA (which are also not very good products).

14nm didn't even make it into phones yet which is disappointing.

Yep, what good is a "process lead" if you don't actually roll out products that take advantage of that process? Cherryview was a very mediocre SoC (they missed their clock targets, perf/clock barely went up in CPU, GPU wasn't all that great, etc.) and they knew it all the way back in 2013 when they were saying Broxton would be a mid-2015 part.
