Fueled by a rally in oil and an impressive rebound in the financial sector, stocks were sharply higher in midday trade Friday led by gains in Dow component stocks JP Morgan (JPM) and Goldman Sachs (GS). Upbeat retail sales data is also contributing to Friday's positive action, offsetting disappointing consumer sentiment data from the University of Michigan, and restoring investors' confidence in the U.S. economy. Retails sales rose an as-expected 0.2% last month, and were up 0.4% excluding automobile and gasoline sales.
