No idea really how much it costs. Depends on how many hospitals get involved and the scope of the tests. For instance though, I know of a company that collects the radioactive dye necessary to provide data while doing an angiogram but the collection device is inserted before the dye hits the kidneys and does damage. They collect the dye by using the company's device that collects blood from the vein just after it leaves the heart but before it hits the kidneys. The blood has a lot of the dye in it since it is injected just before it hits the heart.
So just to do this somewhat straightforward test in 2014 and pay the hospitals for time and staff to do 578 tests cost them $6.7 M. They presently sell the test for $300, so that part of their cost is maybe $100 or $57k which means the rest of the total is the hospital costs. Half of the tests were placebo so you would think that would be cheaper to do.

Not apples and oranges but you can see how the costs add up for straightforward looking tests. Perhaps mzei could do trials for a few million $.
