In all likelihood, Lowenthal will suffer no ill effects, and when he dies, a small part of what was once your money will be passed on to his kids.
As far as Freddie: well, he does hang out with a dicey crowd. And he was willing to trade leases on near-worthless mining claims for stock in the "sisters." However, Lumb and Lowenthal have a proven pattern of being scammers long before Freddie got on their radar.
