hookrider -- facts are facts whether any of us like them or not -- those who fought for the Confederacy who did not own and profit from slaves in fact fought against their own interests -- there is no better way to keep workers' wages down than to have workers have to compete against the wages of slaves (something now being repeated, ultimately and soon even more starkly, with the rapid rise of increasingly capable and less expenseive robots/automated systems/artificial intelligence in the workplace -- best slaves ever -- until, that is, they completely transcend our capabilities and begin running everything by and for themselves)
