Not true? Perhaps you misunderstand what an open pit operation means? Bonanza's Copperstone operation was an open pit hard rock operation, not a placer operation. They are currently shut down because of low gold prices, not mining underground, and there are no gold mines anywhere in Arizona for that reason (low gold prices).

As for a "huge operation", there is no operation as of yet. And I doubt there ever will be one, except possibly a showcase one run only on days when investors are in town. That's how these desert dirt scams typically operate - it's all a story.
