I've seen this happen before with micromet which was bought out by Amgen for $11.00 per share. The BB' converted their notes into shares at a much lower price. Longs could wait approximately a month to either be given $11.00 per share, or the Baker Bros. would buy their shares 0n the open market at anything from $10.90 to $10.99 ( the later the higher the price ) they would then collect the $11.00 per share at the buyout, or receive shares of Amgen. Sometimes if you are fast and lucky someone, caught up in the moment, would offer more than $11.00 per share.
