a.) they have a same risk profile
b.) be or not in the trial does not affect the "chance of event"


I think you are wrong.

Obviously if they are not in the trial , the "chance of event " is 0.

The longer they are in the trial , the higher probability they have of a "chance of event ".
Therefore if they had reached the 8,000 enrollment target by mid 2015 ( as stated in end of yr 2013 CC ) ...instead of " around " end of yr 2015 ...more patients in the trial for a longer periods increases the potential event rate ( with the assumed risk profiles )... you would hit the 967th event earlier.
