AT&T (the stock ran on that one so there was more Hub influence than you might think)
Soon-Shiong (the end of the end for NeoMedia)
Microsoft (despite already having all of NeoMedia's patents)
Google (despite exiting the barcode space)
Apple (because they would want to use QR codes for mobile pay)
Walmart
IBM (they needed the security of the indirect method)
Motorola
Nokia

The objective of these fabricated rumors is move money out of another's pocket and into the pocket of authors of the fiction.
