The Toledo Mud Hens, the Detroit Tigers' Triple-A affiliate, named Lloyd McClendon their new manager Monday.

McClendon was fired last month by Mariners general manager Jerry Dipoto after posting a winning record in two seasons with Seattle.
"I am very pleased to have Lloyd McClendon managing the Toledo Mud Hens in 2016," Dave Littlefield, Tigers vice president of player development, told the team website. "He is a passionate competitor, experienced baseball man and strong leader. Toledo's players and our minor league development system will benefit with Lloyd at the helm."
McClendon, 56, previously served as a bullpen coach for the Tigers for one season, then a hitting coach from 2007-13 before the Mariners hired him prior to the 2014 season.
"It's an honor to come back to the Detroit Tigers organization," McClendon said. "I've been to Fifth Third Field many times in the past. It's a wonderful ballpark and the fans are outstanding. It should be a very enjoyable summer for us."

Common sense is a flower that doesn't grow in everyone's garden.
