It's interesting that Kirk Skaugen will report to him, though...must be a little bit discouraging for him; PCCG generates more revenue than Qualcomm QCT does.

Yes, I think BK and the Board sees the need for new blood and fresh thinking at Client Computing (as well as the other groups). This is a momentous and huge change at Intel. I'm sure BK and the Board gave considerable thought to making this appointment.

In the new role, Renduchintala will report to Intel CEO Brian Krzanich and will have four engineering teams reporting up to him — the platform engineering group, led by Amir Faintuch (a former Qualcomm executive himself), the client computing group, led by Kirk Skaugen, the IoT group led by Doug Davis and the software and services group led by Doug Fisher.
