I live across the street from the busiest Whole foods in the USA, in the Time Warner Building..they have 40 cashiers and serve much to tourist in 20+ seat area............... Trader Joe is too far to make a dent but Trader Joes has a cult like following of customers willing to stay on line outside their store to be let in like a Black Friday event. Same customers must shop for fresh meats and fish at Whole foods once they nailed their addicted cult items from Joes. Whole foods now as cheap or cheaper than the ordinary generic stores and much cheaper in NYC. But NYC is not a composite of USA although same dynamic in L.A., So think Whole food just has too much critical mass to lose market share, although on paper seems other competitors can encroach but in reality think they will just be niche players offering only proximity to customer as their ace in the hole.
