BELLEVUE, Wash. (AP) - A Bellevue police official with the department for over 20 years has resigned after admitting he used lights and sirens to maneuver through traffic to get his son and his friends to a school event.

Bellevue Police said in a statement Deputy Chief Michael D. Johnson resigned Friday with the announcement of an investigation into the incident.

Johnson was pulled over by Sammamish police Oct. 24 while driving his son and his friends to an event. He reportedly drove them in his unmarked police vehicle, forcing traffic out of the way at an intersection as he used the vehicle's lights and sirens.

Police Chief Steve Mylett said Johnson took responsibility for his actions and decided to retire. Mylett says Johnson called him after the incident expressing remorse.
