He demonstrated enormous contempt for his obligations under his guilty plea, by first continuing to argue factual innocence despite the overwhelming evidence against him and his obligation not to under the bargain, then by taking his crappy case to the 9th Circuit, despite his agreeing in the bargain not to do precisely that.

But running bigger and bigger scams means he can afford ever-fancier lawyers to defend him. Apparently, that's how the system works in the USA.
