The vice president of a Cheniere Energy Inc. unit and a college friend were accused by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday of insider trading.

The agency said the two traded options on Cheniere ahead of announcements about the company entering into contracts with counterparties and its public stock offering. The commission filed a complaint against them in U.S. District Court in Connecticut. The college friend agreed to settle the accusations against him by accepting penalties, subject to court approval.
