The aim of such combined administration is to elevate the levels of the fatty acids[EPA preferred] in cells by providing the fatty acid or its precursor, together with a drug[Cox-1 or -2 inhibitor, Ibuprofen] which blocks the metabolism of the fatty acid by one or other of its metabolic routes.
