Reminds me of the story of the fox and the scorpion, I think Alfred told it to Batman but it fits here. Fox and scorpion sitting on banks of a stream. Scorpion asks fox to give him a ride across and promises he won't sting. Fox agrees and they set out. Halfway across the scorpion stings the fox. As they both go down fox ask why, scorpion says I couldn't help it it's just part of my nature.
Seems to be the Driscoll way. Time will tell.
