RIVERSIDE, Calif. — One can only the imagine what goes through the minds of the teenage guards and tackles assigned to block John Krahn, a 7-foot-tall, 440-pound defensive lineman at King High. Probably something like "Please be gentle as you trample me" or "I should have gone out for soccer." Krahn, a senior who is known on the team as "Junior," may be the largest person playing football in the world. He's bigger than anybody in the NFL. J.J. Watt, by comparison, is only 6-foot-5 and a svelte 288 pounds. But chasing nimble running backs when you weigh more than a French-door refrigerator can be a challenge, so Krahn is trying to slim down.
"I have to lose weight for our team," he told MaxPreps. He's limiting himself to 3,000 calories a day on a diet of mostly fish and chicken. Some Division I coaches are reportedly interested in recruiting him — if he loses the spare tire and improves his footwork, his weakest skill.
The older you get, the tougher it is to lose weight, because by then your body and your fat have gotten to be really good friends.
