Woodbury man charged with tax crimes

ST. PAUL, Minn.

The Minnesota Department of Revenue announced that the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office recently charged Mark Miles, of Woodbury,with six tax-related felonies.

Miles is charged with six counts of making retail sales after the business’ sales tax permit was revoked.

According to the criminal complaint, Miles is the president of The Green Guardian Corporation, a lawn and garden maintenance, landscape, and snow plowing business.
The business received a sales tax permit in 2006 but has failed to pay sales tax since 2009.

The complaint states the business owed more than $236,000 in delinquent sales tax, penalty and interest by August 2010. The business’ sales tax permit was revoked in January 2014.

The complaint also states the business continued making retail sales under a different name, after the sales tax permit was revoked. The new business, Green Guardian Landcare LLC, never received a sales tax permit.

The felony charges carry a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison and up to a $10,000 fine.
