Jess, I would think that the shorts are planning some kind of attempt to defuse a rapid rise in the sp, perhaps an effort on Monday morning to bring the sp down to kill the momentum. Having said that, as Ariad now has attracted everyone's attention I am sure a lot of new money will want to join the party as there now is real hope for another offer soon. I don't think the shorts will be successful in holding back the sp as the perception has changed and they want to get out reasonably intact. Your observations sound realistic and how great it would be to see a lot of green days before a buyout.
