Sergio Garcia is not among the commitments to next week's Deutsche Bank Championship.
This is interesting. He's already sitting out The Barclays, but the expectation was for him to return at TPC Boston on Sept. 4. Now, even though the commitment deadline was today at 5:00 p.m. ET, the field won't be set officially until the conclusion of play at Plainfield Country Club this weekend, so perhaps Garcia pops up when the published field is updated on Monday, just don't bet on it. He's 31st in the FedExCup standings, but the only other time he's sat out the first two legs was in 2010 when he started the Playoffs slotted 101st and took two months off for personal reasons. The Spaniard also took a pass on the DBC in 2012 and 2014 before resuming his schedule at the BMW Championship both times. He's advanced to East Lake in each of the last three years. If he commits to the field of 70 at this year's BMW (Sept. 17-20), he'll have some confidence in knowing that he tied for 18th the first time Conway Farms hosted in 2013.
