biopharm, yes, many Belgians. Normal, all the HQs of the European Medicine related organisations are in Belgium/Brussels (ECO, ESMO, etc).

You need to understand that the 18th ESMO that PPHM will attend is preceded (chair) by Martine Picart (with a 't' and therefor not related to Jean-Luc :). Not bold either :) but a good looking woman that carries her age better then most, intelligent and bright. Lead in Jules Bordet hospital, oncology leader and ...:)...Bristol-MS stronghold.

Not by coincidence, Jules Bordet was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine already in 1919 for his discoveries relating to immunity.

PPHM's SUNRISE for one raeson or another didn't make it to the Bordet Instituut and I think that BMY sponsoring (of the institutes fellowship) may be part of that. Another reason is that one of hospitals where SUNRISE is running is just 500m away from Bordet and is also one of the Top 5 hospitals in Brussel. Maybe they work together. Martine Picart is Bavituximab aware.

For PPHM Bordet Instituut is a good potential party for other oncology clinical trials. They are starting to build a completely new big oncology hospital on the site of the Brussels University next to the other Top hospital Erasmus. In that area also many Bio/Pharma companies are settling to supply drugs and of course plenty of Doctor, Nurse, Kine, etc students.

Don't forget, Cancer treatment is almost for free for Belgian citizens because Social Security pays almost everything back, and therefore lucrative grounds.

I have a relative that was treated with chemo and had to stay many months in the hospital and the total bill was less then 5000 Euro (all inclusive) and contained mostly extra services such as TV, beverages etc that are not covered by SS.

Private insurance paid back 4000 Euro of that (Private Insurance costs 15 to 40 Euro per month depending on the age you joined and pays back 80% of what SS doesn't pay back and has no amount limit, including single room upgrades and World Wide hospital admittance if accepting repatriation to Belgium if the hospital cost exceeds 100K Euro and transport is possible. By law a Private Insurance CANNOT stop covering you even if you end up in the hospital 10 time a year as long as you pay the monthly fee and there is no fraud/abuse).

Even more interesting to launch a drug like Bavituximab is that those Private Insurance companies MAY NOT as in the US get involved in your treatment or related choices as to WHERE (In Belgium) and by whom (choice of Doctor) or how (choice of treatment type). Then of course their risk is low since SS pays back the biggest part first.

Peregrine Pharmaceuticals the Microsoft of Biotechnology! All In My Opinion. I am not advising anything, nor accusing anyone.
