Anti-Chris Christie PAC shutting down because his campaign tanked without their help

AC set up by former Congressman Tom Tancredo to stop New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie from becoming president has announced it is formally shutting down because PAC officials believe Christie’s “miserable showing” has doomed his campaign without their help.

In a post found on the Stop Chris Christie Facebook page, treasurer Tom Bjorklund copied an email sent to FEC officials who questioned the PAC’s relationship with the floundering candidate.

Bjorklund agreed that the PAC was not affiliated with Christie and had, in fact, been established before the New Jersey governor threw his hat in the ring. Having explained that, the treasurer described the group’s future plans by saying they had decided to shut down because there were no longer needed.

“Having clarified our intent when we established the Stop Chris Christie PAC, the point is rather moot, since we have every intention of stopping our PAC and closing within the next 30 days (on or before September 25, 2015),” he wrote.

He continued, “Our decision to cease and desist as a PAC is not due to your letter, but instead is based on recent polling and the miserable showing of the candidate in question (namely Chris Christie). Our committee believes that Mr. Christie has already performed the service of stopping his campaign in spirit, (without our aid) even if not by the letter of the law.”

Bjorklund said the PAC would use the next 30 days to tidy up some loose ends and pay off any vendors.

According to the latest Real Clear Politics polls, Christie is currently in 10th place with 3.3 percent of the GOP vote, behind former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and slightly ahead of former Texas Gov. Rick Perry.
