Man, trying to stop suicide, falls to death from Hawaii dorm

HONOLULU (AP) - Honolulu police say two men fell from a University of Hawaii dormitory and that one of them died while trying to pull the other one from a ledge.

Police say the 24-year-old man who fell to his death was trying to bring inside an apparently distraught 19-year-old on the ledge early Sunday. They were taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The medical examiner's office says an autopsy is scheduled Monday for the 24-year-old.

Police say they fell from the 14th floor.

University spokesman Dan Meisenzahl says neither of the men are students.

He says there were about 20 students living in the two towers that make up the Hale Wainani dorm. He says one of the students had people over.
