If they are matched trades, as you claim, they don't change the bid or ask. There have not been any trades above the ask or below the bid, so how does that move the price or change the bid or ask?

Wash trading has been used to create fake volume in moribund stocks that are going to be pumped & dumped. With no volume on bid or ask because of a dead/moribund ticker, wash trades can move the price and bids and asks UP.

On an actively trade stock like FITX, wash trades are nott used and haven't changed the bid or ask or PPS.

I think you need to find any evidence of any short ever using a wash trade in any ticker. I've never seen it happen and don't understand what you think it accomplishes.

I think there is a fundamental misunderstanding of what wash trades are and how they are used. They do not accomplish anything for a short on an active ticker with active bids and asks.
