I think they are all programs. I ran a few tests, and the programs won't allow you to take the best bid or ask spot - they instantly reposition themselves .0001 lower (or higher) than whatever you do. Most likely they will respond to trading volume, so as we see when there is little or no volume, they just sit there.

But whether they are trading for the broker dealer accounts or not, you are right that they have established a floor - unless non-programs like us come along and start taking them out :)

I'm wondering, will we get any news in September? Dahl made a concrete statement about production that was not speculative, and that demands a follow up. But who wants to bet on it?
