Older Article, but a very good one

Abbatis Bioceuticals:

Out of its five subsidiaries, however, the Biocube Green Grow Systems Corporation promises to extend its reach far beyond that of the Medical Marijuana market, whether Mr. Withrow intends it or not. The “Biocube” is essentially a controlled cultivation micro-environment, integrating lighting, climate control, anti-mildew, anti-odor and dissolved oxygen water systems in a shell structure similar to that of a large shipping container. Abattis has exclusive rights to a proprietary magnesium oxide building material similar in appearance to common drywall, called MgO Board™, that demonstrates enhanced fireproofing, waterproofing, antimicrobial and antibacterial qualities while serving as particularly durable, yet recyclable interior walls for the Biocube. Abattis also obtained licensing rights to revolutionary growing technologies from TerraSphere Systems, based in Boston, MA, that employ vertically stacked grow plots with an autonomous hydroponic nutrient delivery system; organic, nutrient-rich fertilizer solution mixtures that Abattis, too, wholly owns. The technology can be customized to fill the space intended for their use, which could allow a single square foot of uncultivable desert land – for example – to suddenly become ten, fifteen or even twenty square feet of productive space, layered on top of one other. What was that limiting factor of the modern American farmer again? Right – a lack of, and unequal distribution of, nutrient-rich farmland around the country. Well, the fertile agricultural lands of the Midwestern Great Plains supply the majority of our food, but must be shipped around the country to fulfill demand in regions that are naturally unfavorable for farming. The Biocube system turns the unfavorable into favorable by taking the outside environment out of the equation – including seasonal weather patterns – by removing the fundamental limiting factor in agriculture. A single Biocube system placed on city pavement could yield the same amount of produce, herbs, or aesthetic plants grown on several acres of arable land in the Midwest, while eliminating the need for herbicides, pesticides or fossil fuels required for transportation. Furthermore, the closed-loop hydroponics of the TerraSphere vertical grow technology, housed within the Biocube system, use only about 20% of the water needed for traditional field agriculture while producing little to no wastewater or water pollution. - See more at: http://www.alternativeconsumer.com/2014/10/13/the-abattis-bioceuticals-biocube-system-the-future-of-sustainable-farming/#sthash.IegauNcl.dpuf
