New Patient Form at Walk-in Clinic

The moment the "Affordable" Care Act -- aka "ObamaCare" hit, our BCBS premiums went from $514/mo to $942/mo for higher deductibles and less coverage. Now they're set to jump over 40% as a direct result of the apparent government-approved definition of the word "Affordable." That's OK, since we can't afford the $942 and have been without health insurance for the last 18 months.

That's just a small rant, and nothing new around these parts, I'm sure. This really isn't an "ObamaCare" thread (for the mods).

What this is really about is the incredibly invasive questions on the "New Patient Questionnaire" at one of our local walk-in clinics. The clinic is great, and very cheap. The doctors all have great reviews online, and my wife got her screenings and cancer checks for very little out-of-pocket expense, all without any healthcare coverage or plan at all.

But the questions...

This is in the "Deep South", mind you, not some far-left communist enclave in CA or NY. I suppose it's our FED.GOV that imposes these questions (I hope, anyway), but they are nonsense, and we did not answer. Even my wife was offended, and that's difficult to do.

Some of them were: "Are you afraid of anyone in our household?" and "Do you or anyone in your household own guns?" and "If so, are they always safely locked away?"

Since your most personal, private information is required to even obtain healthcare these days, all of these answers are recorded in connection with your SSN and complete medical history. Let's say you undergo surgery and are prescribed Ativan, as many are. Those prescriptions are likely to be misconstrued or used against you when datamining information. Not only that, answering "Yes" to gun ownership is an end-run around FEDERAL GUN REGISTRATION. It *is* "gun registration" in a de facto sense, cut and dry. Let's say, hypothetically, your spouse is angry, or you just got in a fight. Maybe in her anger she answers "Yes" to being afraid of someone at home, and she also answers "Yes" to the gun ownership question. Next thing you know, a posse is at your door and you're guilty until proven innocent (fat chance). Any involvement in anything that smacks of "domestic violence" is an automatic disqualifier for gun ownership in most states.

DISCLAIMER: YES, wife-beating scumbags should be in jail and shouldn't have firearms (really, they should be dipped in honey and staked to a fire ant mound... naked)

For the record, my wife did NOT answer any of those questions, though that's not to say some wageling data entry clerk won't fill in the blanks behind the scenes.

So, anyway, I guess this is more rant than anything, but this is happening in the "Reddest" State of them all, and it really rubs me the wrong way.

Turning on your lights and siren after you lose a drag race is just poor sportsmanship!
