Oklahoma Republican Party Compares Poor People To Animals In Facebook Post

In Oklahoma, where conservatives are currently battling to keep a Ten Commandments statue on government grounds, a Facebook post from the state’s Republican Party is causing controversy and outrage.

Indeed, according to News OK, in 2014, one out of every six Oklahomans lived below the poverty line.

Oklahoma’s poor are also more likely to be young than the national average and they are more likely to have a job. But in Oklahoma, which has the nation’s third-highest rate of people working for or below the minimum wage of $7.25 an hour, having a job doesn’t guarantee an escape from poverty.

According to government statistics on SNAP participation and benefits, some 608,492 Oklahomans participate in SNAP monthly.

That’s the staggering number of people the Oklahoma Republican Party, which dominates in the state’s political landscape, compared to animals.
Phone calls to the Oklahoma Republican Party State HQ were not immediately returned.
