IRS warns about new scam to take your money
KING 5 News, KING5.com 1:47 p.m. PDT July 2, 2015

SEATTLE – The Internal Revenue Service said Thursday scammers are trying a new trick to steal your money.

The new ploy involves sending you forms that appear to be from the IRS but really aren't.

"Taxpayers need to know scam artists have started sending fake documents to trick taxpayers into sending money or 'verifying' their personal information that is then used to commit refund fraud," said IRS spokesman David Tucker.

These falsified tax forms, notices and letters may arrive in the mail or by fax.

This is in addition to popular phone scams in which someone calls claiming to be from the IRS.

"The bottom line is if you receive an unexpected call, fax or letter claiming to be from the IRS, contact the IRS directly by calling our toll-free number, 800-829-1040, to see if we are really trying to contact you," said Tucker.
