Some of those success stories include Citracal, a calcium supplement for prevention of osteoporosis marketed by Mission Pharmacal, as well as Tenectaplase, a clot-busting drug marketed by Genentech under the trade name TNKase, Fitz said. UT Southwestern researchers also are credited with having done the biological research that led to cholesterol-lowering medications Zocor, Mevacor and Lipitor. The school’s research was instrumental in Peregrine Pharmaceuticals, a biopharmaceutical company focused on advancing bavituximab, an antibody designed for the treatment of cancers and viral infections.
