More predictions of a weak PC market

More lousy PC trends

The PC market doesn’t appear to be recovering yet from its ongoing sales slump. DigiTimes Aaron Lee and Joseph Tsai write that notebook computer shipments will decline 5% this year, or perhaps even by double digits. Write the authors, “The sources noted that their brand clients have all been reducing their orders for the second half recently and this could seriously impact the notebook industry’s overall performance in the second half.”

A second article by the site’s Rebecca Kuo and Alex Wolfgram states that notebook demand is not seeing any lift from the impending commercial availability of Microsoft’s (MSFT) Windows 10 operating system next month.

Even some bulls are getting more cautious: Pac Crest’s Michael McConnell, who has an Overweight rating on shares of Intel (INTC), cut his price target to $35 from $37, based on “sub-seasonal PC demand outlook in Q3, coupled with a delayed launch of Skylake processors.”

But some see a silver lining. Jefferies & Co.’s James Kisner cuts his own PC estimates today, writing, “We’re now looking for PC unit sales to decline 7% in CY15 vs. 5% previously; for CY16, we’re now looking for a 2% decline vs. flat previously.”
