There are economies of scale that CAFS can bring to the table when multiple dispensaries and grow ops can share buying power and resources. Also, it doesn't take a marketing or retail genius to open a dispensary or grow op. Luck and location can bring in sales. Controlling expenses, particularly creating and installing inventory management, accounting and POS software, is not easily achieved by an owner who's also trying to double as sales rep, buyer, accountant and store manager.

Grow ops can better plan their crops when they know exactly when and how much of their products each dispensary will need and dispensaries can be assured of having just enough inventory to satisfy demand when they need it through implementation of logistics software. This can't be done by individual owners alone.
