The extra effort and expense of kiln roasting or autoclave (high heat and pressure) to oxidise sulfide ore usually keeps further treatment to pretty cheap cyanide heap leach. Made Carlin stuff workable. This seems to be swimming in solution for a long period and the resin drop out treated to free the metals. Bio oxidation using cheap bacteria in giant ponds had great prospects but just never really beat cyanide after pre-treatment to reduce the encapsulation so cyanide dissolves much as possible. They're really talking about giant waste piles previously unworkable and that will require high POG, probably happen, but we see what comes when it don't.
One factor is Merrill Crowe doesn't use carbon capture their process calls unneeded for shipment to refinery to free metals. You accept less than full release and the labor time reduction using weak cyanide for a long period untended except to pile on more. 8
