North America

A bill to legalize online poker in California was approved by the Assembly Appropriations Committee. AB 431 will now advance to the Assembly floor.
Officials in Pennsylvania continued to debate whether the legalization and introduction of online gaming could help the state remain competitive within the expanding gambling market in the US.
Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval signed Senate Bill 9, which paves the way for slot machines to incorporate skill-based gaming elements.
New York State Senator John Bonacic introduced S-5302 (the “Bill), which proposed to legalize certain forms of Internet poker games in the State of New York.
It was announced that Minnesota’s online lottery instant games would be coming to an end, as Gov. Mark Dayton decided against vetoing legislation suspending the games. The Legislature had sent Dayton the Bill to stop the virtual games after votes in the Senate and House.
Kansas State Governor Sam Brownback signed a Bill to legalize fantasy sports gaming activities in the US state. Pennsylvania also moved to consider a daily fantasy sports Bill in May.
A Bill that would have limited future online gaming compacts between Nevada and other regulated states in the US died in committee.

Europe
The Danish Online Gambling Association (DOGA) released a study claiming that 14 percent of Danish player’s place bets with unlicensed online casino operators.
The European Parliament adopted the fourth anti-money laundering directive (AMLD), giving countries two years to implement the rules which put additional burdens on gambling companies across the European Union. Under the new directive, “providers of gambling services” will be required to carry out due diligence checks for transactions of €2,000 or more [Subscription Required].

APPLE decided to re-install all gambling apps that were previously deleted from its App Store in Sweden following the intervention of the country’s main operator association. The apps, including those from operators such as William Hill, Unibet and bet365, were removed in March earlier this year [Subscription Required].
Romania’s Chamber of Deputies approved the progression of the Country’s draft online gambling framework, as Romanian parliament looks to open up its market to international operators. The draft framework was subsequently sent to President Klaus Iohannis for final review and approval.
