The SmartMetric fingerprint activated and transaction verified biometric payments card uses the Global Banking Industry standard EMV chip in its payments cards. This allows the SmartMetric biometric card to work with the existing Global payments card infrastructure and does not require an additional reading device to be used by Banks and Retailers.

1 billion increase in chip cards use from 2013 to 2014.

From what it seems, banks and retailers won't have to pay anything in order to incorporate the card.
