Say someone close to you is going to try to do something that is very difficult. Do you say

Good luck! I have no doubt you can do this!

or

Hey, this is going to be tough. Don't be upset if you don't make it.

Seems to me like the first would put them into depression if they fail and the second is stating you don't think they are capable.

Thoughts?
