Storing hydrogen in liquid form as a fuel, as PLUG is claiming to do, is a thermodynamic energy balance and safety mistake, that no chemical engineer like me would ever support. Not even the US DOE supports it.

Refrigerating and pressuring hydrogen to temperatures and pressures needed to liquify it just adds a huge energy consuming penalty to the mix. That is why the US DOE and many major universities have joined the Mantra Formic acid fuel cell fuel option as the future of fuel cells and renewable fuels. Making formic acid out of CO2 instead of using CH4 to make H2 makes far more since. Formic acid is liquid at room temperature and easy to transport and store at room temperature and far safer since it is non flammable.
