Seems to me there was something in that article about aging fuel cells being replaced by microturbines. So that's not likely happening at a new plant in North Carolina.
On another note... A recent B-day trip to the Sonoma Coast included lunch at Lagunitas Brewing Company in Petaluma.
Curious guy that I am I had a conversation with one of the staff about possible process technology upgrades.
He told me that one of the most significant costs/issues for big brewers is daily disposal of wet waste byproducts. I'm guessing it's spent grain slurry. There's a constant flow of tanker trucks going offsite to a paid disposal site.
He also knew about microturbines and suggested it would be happening there...soon. Though he wasn't clear on timing...
But what detail he did know suggests bio-digestion to product gas for MT and waste heat to evaporate moisture so waste is dry & light.
My thought is that water reclamation would also be smart in light of our ongoing drought here in CA.
I'll also go so far as to predict that all major breweries will adopt MT technology as it's ideally suited to their particular process needs.
