Storing food is a good idea and don't forget the honey. Also, don't forget water storage/purification. We own a Berkey water purifier.

A generator comes in handy when the power goes out for any reason. Ours runs on nature gas, propane or gasoline and since I have nature gas in my home this seemed like the best bet. Normally the natural gas continues to flow even when there is a power outage.

Something that a lot of folks don't think about .... Do not go around bragging about what you have prepared for. You can become a target when/if times get tough.

We have a pantry that we stock with canned goods (we rotate the stock) emergency medical supplies, batteries, water, lanterns .... Camping gear. We also use mylar bags w/O2 absorbers and a vacuum sealer to help make some foods last years.

Don't forget to checkout medicinal plants and herbs along with edible plants that grow wild in your area.

With the exception of your first item on your list we have the same. We're trying to whittle the debt down but fortunately we only have a small car payment and mortgage.
