Dozens of Christians mark Good Friday in the West Bank to mark on of the holiest days in the Christian calendar.
In Jerusalem worshippers from all over the globe walk along the Via Dolorosa in the Old City -- retracing what they believe was the route that Jesus took to his crucifixion.
In Germany -- a reenactment of scenes from the Bible depicting the events of Good Friday. For more than 30 years, members of the small town's community has organized an annual Passion Play in which Jesus is arrested by Roman soldiers and crucified.
For some, the tradition is an important reminder of their faith. (SOUNDBITE) (German) SPECTATOR, DIRK LANGNER, SAYING: "I think this event is too often overlooked among all the Easter bunnies and Easter eggs. And I think it is important to remind everybody - people who perhaps don't go to church, and all the children who are here, which I think is great - what Easter really means."
In the Philippines, a more graphic reenactment as devotees crucify themselves as a sign of repentance. The bloody rite has become a a popular tourist event in recent years - - despite the Catholic Church's protest against self-punishment. The crucifixion rituals are held during the Holy Week, an eight-day celebration starting from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday.
