Perhaps seeing the shares in one account is too much of a reminder to the losses incurred.

Perhaps its better to wash one's hands of this mess and not be implicated by holding on to shares which were gifted.

Perhaps they are just MM's dumping what they have in inventory ahead of a delisting.

All viable answers.
