B. Braun Medical Ltd announced as exclusive UK distributor for new pain device
Sheffield-based healthcare giant B. Braun Medical Ltd has been unveiled as the exclusive UK distributor of an innovative new pain device for orthopaedics and trauma.
The distribution deal for the RecoveryRX® micro medical device has been announced by BioElectronics Corporation, USA.
B. Braun Medical Ltd will now introduce the device into its surgical pathways to help improve pain relief and movement in patients following hip and knee joint replacements, spine surgery and orthopaedic trauma.
Darren Lee, Vice President Orthopaedics and Spine at B. Braun Medical Ltd, said: “Adoption of the RecoveryRx® technology will emphasise our continued commitment to patient centered care and safety.
“B. Braun is dedicated to helping health care professionals through the continued development of high performance products, from world-renowned innovative implants to therapeutic systems, which offer a high standard of care, innovation and outcomes. We are thrilled to add RecoveryRx® to our portfolio of products.”
After clinical testing, B. Braun Medical Ltd recognised the broad application of RecoveryRx® technology in orthopaedics - from joint replacements and spinal surgery to fracture management - as well as its ability to provide effective pain relief and decrease fluid retention, which in turn may decrease the length of the patient’s hospital stay and improve functional outcomes.
Dr Deepak Kotak, BioElectronics Executive Vice President, said: “Providing effective analgesia and a reduced need for non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and opioids is inherently safer, better tolerated and more cost-effective, particularly in an aging population”.
The companies also said as part of their working relationship that B. Braun would be conducting further randomised controlled studies in its UK centres of excellence in knee replacement, as well as a bone healing study.
It is anticipated that the relationship will extend after the initial roll out in the UK as use of RecoveryRx® broadens to Germany and other territories.
