INTEL, THE WORLD’S largest chip maker, is in talks to acquire Silicon Valley chip builder Altera

I can't really see the point - it would be a far better bet to invest in Altera rather than taking them over. Putting Altera within Intel will just make it worth less I think and not give Intel anything it can't get from a partnership and owning shares. Intel just seems unable to work in partnerships without thinking it can do things better and trying to take the partner over, and the history of its takeovers indicates the exact opposite.
