Peru: Works to mitigate oil spill in Loreto are being monitored



18:11. Lima, Mar. 05. A team of the Environment Ministry’s Environmental Assessment Directorate (OEFA) is currently in Loreto to monitor the actions adopted by Argentinean enterprise Pluspetrol Norte S.A regarding the oil spill happened on February 25 in the Corrientes River basin.

OEFA told the oil spill of the Corrientes-Saramuro oil pipeline took place in Trompeteros district, Loreto region.

The OEFA's team verified Pluspetrol initiated works for the construction of trenches (which will include geomembranes to storage crude oil above the ground). It also has placed barriers to retain and recover crude oil from the water.

OEFA, pursuant to its supervising role, has collected 6 samples of water and 3 samples of soil. This intervention represents the State acts quickly in order to mitigate this problem.
