Here's the glass-is-half-empty look at Red Sox lineup

March 4, 2015, 5:15 pm

So you think the Red Sox have a good lineup, do you?

An e-mailer to Felger & Mazz named "James in Brighton" doesn't. He raised concerns about every hitter in the Sox batter order -- Pablo Sandoval is fat, Mike Napoli and Shane Victorino are coming off injuries, Dustin Pedroia's declining, etc., etc. -- and concluded: "This lineup has more questions than it does answers. As a whole, this lineup is a major question mark."

Michael Felger -- who's been on a roll this week -- backed off and led Tony Massarotti handle this one ( http://tinyurl.com/ozzl98k ). And Mazz agreed with James in Brighton . . . to a point.

"I think this is a reasonable observation," he said. "If you go through 1 through 9, they all have their own little issues to deal with . . . The thing is, what is the likelihood that all nine of them will go wrong? Not great. A few of those guys are going to have good years, a few are going to probably have bad years, and a few in the middle are going to decide whether it's a good lineup or a bad lineup."

But in the end, he agreed with the issues James in Brighton raised:

"I think there's a legitimate reason to look at every guy in that lineup and say, 'Yeah, but.' "
