OMG, a blast from the past!!!

IOMG, NOT Magic Corp but the original ticker for Iomega before it hit the big board and morphed to IOM.

I've always considered Iomega the first internet stock sensation.

Before the internet, then called the www, became prominent, there originally was what we know call Usenet with clumsy bb's. The first terrific stock mb's were on Prodigy and CompuServ.

But AOL's gui blew the primitive interfaces of the others away.

The Gardner brothers introduced dumbed down investing to the masses with their Motley Fool. Soon the MF mb's were more popular than AOL's own.

When the Gardners added IOMG to their model portfolio, an absolute feeding frenzy occurred. Since discussion of short selling was banned, there was little discussion of the negatives.

Herb Greenberg, then at "The SF Chronicle" was pass

ionate observer:
Title: Against The Grain; The Wrath of the Iomegans

Summary: TALES FROM THE BULL MARKET; Years from now, when I think back on what best characterized this bull market, I'll always remember Iomega. Not only did it have all the makings of a first-class mania, but it also made for great newspaper copy. During its heyday I was the San Francisco Chronicle's daily business columnist, and for more than two years "the I word," as Iomega became known, appeared in more than 90 of my columns. Each new mention became the latest in a saga known to my readers as "Iomega insanity." It was a soap opera complete with a hero (Iomega CEO Kim Edwards), a villain (me), and hundreds, if not thousands, of protagonists (the Iomegans--investors who congregated on America Online's Motley Fool message boards to cheerlead the stock that had made many of them rich.
